When an Uncle had issues with voting in our last November 2018 election. She was playing no games. She got him on the phone that day and got to the bottom of it. She wanted to know what happened and how it can never happen again. She educated him and was willing to help in any way possible. Her name is Brittany Mathis and she wants to make sure everyone is educated on their right to vote. Brittany Mathis was born in California, and grew up in Seattle Washington and graduated from Lindbergh High School. She went on to Hampton University and received her B.A in English Arts. After HU she graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. Currently she is the Executive Director of the Charleston, South Carolina Friends of the Library a nonprofit that raises money to fund more than 7,000 programs sponsored annually by the Charleston County Public Library. Ms. Mathis became passionate about voting in the 2016 elections where she urged people to get out and vote then. Ms. Mathis is carrying on a long and important legacy of informing people of their civil rights.

The 2020 election is right around the corner and many people need to be educated on their right to vote. It is important for everyone to exercise their right to vote because it is your right. VOTE! We all know the importance and the sacrifices so many had to face to ensure this civil right came to pass. Ms. Mathis is the creator of the Soul to Sol Salon Project. Soul to Sol is an initiative to educate minority women on the importance of voting by visiting local hair salons. You can get a blowout and a blessing at the same time! Now it is not just about your national elections but your local elections as well. Voting is the first step. After the vote is casted continue to see what progress is being made in your communities. Go to town hall meetings and get involved in your community. Collectively we can change all of our communities for the better.
